Golfing
Golfing is a special pleasure in the Yakima Valley. We have a
wide range of courses which are rarely busy, in many cases inexpensive
and with our mild climate and 300 days of sunshine, many are open
year round. Listed below are the courses with links so
you can set up your tee time.
Apple
Tree is the best know course with its distinctive
“apple” island on 17th green. At 6,900 yards it has
earned the prestigious four star rating from Golf Digest. 18 holes
are $77 on the weekend and $62 mid week. If you golf Apple Tree
frequently, they have punch cards for 10, 20, 40, 60 or 90 rounds
for discounted rates.
Vineyards
is a new resort and golf course under development.
Selah
Elks Club 8 is a private course for Elks located
next to the Yakima River.
River
Ridge is a 9 hole public executive length golf course
in Selah. $18 a round on weekends.
Suntides
is an 18 hole public course in the Naches Valley just a couple
miles north of Yakima off highway 12. A new 18 hole putting course
is available with grass greens and water hazards. Fees are $37
for 18 holes on the weekend.
Westwood
West is a 9 hole executive length golf course in
Yakima. 9 holes are $28 on the weekend.
Yakima
Country Club is a private golf course and country
club with clubhouse, restaurant, tennis and swimming facilities.
Fisher
Park is a 9 hole par 3 course owned by the city of
Yakima. 9 holes are $9.
Mt.
Adams Country Club located south of Toppenish on
highway 97. is an 18 hole private course which has a “class
C” annual member fee of $5 and greens fees of $28 for weekends
and $24 for weekdays for 18 holes. This course is routinely played
year round.
Zillah
Lakes is a new residential community designed around
a 9 hole golf course under development just northwest of Zillah
off the I-82 freeway.
Black
Rock Creek is an 18 hole public just 3 miles east
of Sunnyside. 18 holes are $42 on the weekend.
Cherry
Hill Golf Course is a 9 hole executive golf course
just 1 mile east of Granger. 9 hole fees are $18 on the weekends.
Walking, Hiking
and Biking
Walking
and hiking trails are a pleasant and healthy way to experience
the beauty of the Yakima Valley. Two parks in the City of Yakima
offer paved loop pathways, Franklin
Park and Randall
Park. Biking along scenic routes such as the Yakima River
Canyon offers breathtaking views.
Hiking trails are abundant along the rivers and in the hills
and mountains surrounding the Yakima Valley. The Yakima
Greenway Foundation offers 10 miles of paved pathway for walking
and biking. Cowiche
Canyorn Conservancy maintains a system of trails through Cowiche
Canyon for hiking and mountain biking. Many trails offer
easy hikes for those who enjoy wildflowers and animal life and
many offer stunning views of the Cascade Mountains. There are
also plenty of trails for hiking enthusiasts that want more of
a challenge. The paved Boulder
Cave Trail is approximately 1.5 miles round trip with a 200-foot
elevation gain. Located up Chinook Pass, 30 miles from Yakima.
Hiking groups from the Yakima Valley offer the novice and experienced
hiker the opportunity to enjoy the Yakima Valley from a mountain
trail.
One local group, The Cascadians
Outdoor Recreation Club, includes hikers, bicyclists, skiers
and other outdoor enthusiasts.
Accessible during the summer months, the Pacific
Crest Trail is a popular route for hiking and mountain biking.
The trail is located at the summit of White Pass on Highway 12.
Both the White Pass Scenic Byway and the Chinook Pass Scenic Byway
have numerous hiking trails through the Cascades.
The
Yakima Valley is a perfect place for biking enthusiasts. Several
bike routes wind through the heart of farming and wine country.
With rolling hills draped in cherry, apple and pear orchards,
these routes provide the cyclist with hours of exercise and enjoyment.
Wineries and tasting rooms are abundant along the way and offer
the perfect place to relax and enjoy the fantastic weather and
scenic views that the Yakima Valley is known for. The Lower
Valley Pathway is a paved pathway stretching 14 miles from
Sunnyside to Prosser. This are contains many wineries, orchards
and vegetable stands. Many outdoor enthusiasts enjoy mountain
biking in the Cascade Mountains, just a short drive from Yakima.
There are several biking clubs that offer weekly excursions for
the novice and for the hardcore bicyclist. Mt.
Adams Cycling and Chinook Cycling are two very active cycling
clubs in the Yakima Valley.

Yakima
Valley’s arid climate provides residents plenty of blue
skies and very little rain. There is, however, no shortage of
water for recreation –especially fishing– in nearby
lakes, rivers, and ponds.
Salmon and steelhead are found in area rivers; Columbia, at Drano,
Hanford Reach, mouth of the Deschutes, Klickitat and White Rivers
and the Cowlitz, Klickitat, Deschutes and Snake Rivers. Occasionally
when runs are strong, the Yakima River has and excellent fishery.
Millions of dollars have been spent to restore salmon and steelhead
to the Yakima and Naches River.
Mountain lakes provide great fishing spectacular scenery. Clear
Lake and Rimrock Lake are located on White Pass, just 40 miles
from Yakima, and offer rainbow and Kokanee trout. Wenas Lake 20
miles north of Selah has rainbows and brown trout. Fishermen also
troll for Kokanee and rainbow trout on Bumping Lake located on
scenic Chinook Pass, 60 miles from Yakima. The numerous ponds
along I-82 in the Upper and Lower Yakima Valley offer large mouth
bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish,
rainbow and brown trout.
The crystal clear waters of the Tieton and Naches Rivers offer
rainbow trout and white fish. Cowiche Creek is known for cutthroat,
rainbow and brook trout.
The Yakima River is world famous for its catch and release blue
ribbon Rainbow Trout fly fishing. The Yakima River is fished in
all seasons year round. Currently under construction in the Yakima
River Canyon is a fly fishing resort Canyon

Schools and Education
In every community, schools are key to the health, vitality and
future. The Yakima Valley has many fine districts, as well as,
private schools for your children’s education. Listed below

Area colleges and universities offer undergraduate and graduate
degrees, and classes are available at various learning institutions

The Yakima Valley
Community College (YVCC) main campus is located at 16th Avenue
and Nob Hill Boulevard in Yakima and offers Associate degrees
in a wide variety of fields including Art, Business Administration,
Criminal Justice, Foreign Languages, Political Science, and Music.
YVCC periodically offers classes to help you improve your Yakima
Valley wine experience such as: Wine for Dummies, Wine and Cheese,
and Faults of Wine.
Washington
State University (WSU) operates an academic center off Nob
Hill Boulevard and 12th Avenue in Yakima offering graduate and
undergraduate degree programs in various fields of study including
Nursing, Business Administration, Agriculture and Environmental
Science.
The main campus of Central Washington University (CWU) is located
just 30 miles from Yakima in Ellensburg shington. Its branch
campus in Yakima offers programs in Elementary Education,
Social Sciences, and Law and Justice.
The main campus of Heritage
University is located in Toppenish, just 15 miles southeast
of Yakima. The university also operates a branch campus in Yakima.
Heritage offers undergraduate degrees in wide range of programs
including Computer Science, Accounting, Natural Resources, Biology,
and Visual Arts. Graduate degrees are offered in Education, Educational
Administration, and Counseling.
Perry Technical
Institute located since 1940 has provided training for skilled

Yakima
is known thru out the Northwest for its facilities, weather, accommodations
and events for both participant and spectator sports. The Yakima
Valley Sports Commission works to coordinate and stage these
events. Kiwanis Fields at the Gateway Sports Complex and Carlin
Park in Selah are both newly constructed softball fields attracting
tournaments, players and spectators.
Annually, the Yakima
Valley SunDome hosts many tournaments and sporting events.
Seating from 4,000 to over 8,000 depending on the seating configuration,
this beautiful facility hosts a wide variety of events from rodeos
and concerts to basketball and volleyball.
Right next door to the SunDome and just off the I-82 freeway
is Yakima
Speedway, a ½ mile circular track that is NASCAR sanctioned
and together with
Renegade Raceway a dragstrip near Wapato cater to the racing
fan.

the newly constructed 12 courts at Kimmel
Park and the 13 outdoor and 8 indoor courts at the private

The Arts
The
Capitol Theatre - One of Yakima’s most treasured
historic venues, hosts over 150 events each year, including top-quality
touring Broadway musicals. It is also home to a variety of productions
presented by numerous local organizations, such as Yakima Symphony
Orchestra, Town Hall Lecture Series, Youthworks, The Memorial
Follies and many local dance studios.
The
Seasons Performance Hall - Converted in 2005 from
an historic church this hall has quickly become a site for jazz,
Latin, and classical music, with weekly programs featuring international
performers at the highest level. The hall, located in downtown
Yakima, boasts the fine architecture, outstanding acoustics, and
elegance of the great concert halls of Europe.

Côte Bonneville, is committed to producing the best expression
of our DuBrul Vineyard each vintage. We harvest Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, and Cabernet Franc at the point of optimal ripeness, vinify
each lot separately, then age the wines in new French oak barrels
from different cooperages. After six months, the individual wines
are assessed, oak and toast levels are evaluated, then we blend
so the flavors will marry during the next year in barrel. The
