Yakima Valley Fishing And Hunting

Fishing

Yakima Valley’s arid climate provides residents plenty of blue skies and very little rain. There is, however, no shortage of water for recreation –especially fishing– in nearby lakes, rivers, and ponds.

Salmon and steelhead are found in area rivers; Columbia, at Drano, Hanford Reach, mouth of the Deschutes, Klickitat and White Rivers and the Cowlitz, Klickitat, Deschutes and Snake Rivers. Occasionally when runs are strong, the Yakima River has and excellent fishery. Millions of dollars have been spent to restore salmon and steelhead to the Yakima and Naches River.

Mountain lakes provide great fishing spectacular scenery. Clear Lake and Rimrock Lake are located on White Pass, just 40 miles from Yakima, and offer rainbow and Kokanee trout. Wenas Lake 20 miles north of Selah has rainbows and brown trout. Fishermen also troll for Kokanee and rainbow trout on Bumping Lake located on scenic Chinook Pass, 60 miles from Yakima. The numerous ponds along I-82 in the Upper and Lower Yakima Valley offer large mouth bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, rainbow and brown trout.

In addition to our award-winning Gewürztraminer and Dry Riesling, this year we have added a delightful Pinot Noir, 2005 Syrah and Merlot, as well as barrel-aged Semillon and an aromatic Late Harvest Riesling. All crafted by Anke Freimuth-Wildman, Steppe Cellars' German-trained winemaker. When you visit our rustic-chic tasting room, plan to have a picnic in our cherry orchard and enjoy the commanding view.
